CAWTHORN ROMAN CAMP
Distance: 1.8 miles · 5 min drive
Postcode: YO18 8QQ
Length: 1-mile circular · Easy
Right on our doorstep — a lovely open countryside walk with historic Roman earthworks and wide views across the Vale of Pickering.
Firm, level surfaces throughout; no stiles or steep steps. Ideal for a gentle pre-dinner stroll or relaxed morning walk without travelling far. Plenty of open space and interesting scents for your dog.
⚠️ Dog notes: Livestock may graze — keep leads handy.
PICKERING CASTLE & BECK ISLE LOOP
Distance: 6 miles · 10–12 min drive

Length: 2.2-mile circular · Easy
A delightful town-and-beck walk right in Pickering. Start at the Market Place, walk up to Pickering Castle. Dogs on leads are welcome throughout the grounds. Then wind down to Beck Isle, where the shallow beck gives dogs a lovely paddle spot.
Beautiful in any weather, with plenty of dog-friendly pubs and cafés on your return.

DALBY FOREST — ELLERBURN RED TRAIL
Distance: 7 miles · 15 min drive

Length: 1.7 miles (short) / 3.4 miles (long) · Easy–Moderate
Over 8,000 acres of beautiful woodland to explore. This trail follows Ellerburn Beck — perfect for water-loving dogs to paddle and cool off.
Hard-surfaced paths, excellent shade in summer, and a choice of distances to suit dogs of all ages and energy levels. Visitor centre with dog-friendly outdoor seating.
⚠️ Dog notes: On lead near livestock and April–June bird-nesting season. Check coats for ticks after walking.
FARNDALE DAFFODIL WALK
(River Dove Circuit)
Distance: 12 miles · 25 min drive
Postcode: YO62 7UY (Low Mill Car Park)
Length: 3.5-mile circular · Easy
Famous for spectacular wild daffodils along the banks of the River Dove — at their best mid-March to mid-April, but beautiful at any time of year. A gentle riverside stroll through meadows and woodland from Low Mill to Church Houses and back. Shallow river access, mostly flat paths, and the Daffy Café for refreshments at the halfway point.

HOLE OF HORCUM CIRCULAR
Distance: 9 miles · 15–18 min drive ·
Postcode: YO18 7NR (Saltergate Car Park)
Length: 3.7-mile circular · Moderate
The legendary "Devil's Punchbowl" —
one of the North York Moors' most spectacular natural landmarks. Walk the rim of this vast natural amphitheatre for breathtaking panoramic views across open moorland. Wide grassy paths, wonderful sense of space, and a truly memorable moorland experience.
⚠️ Dog notes: Sheep and cattle graze widely — leads are mandatory where livestock are present.
Exposed clifftop edges — keep dogs close in windy weather.
MAY BECK AND FALLING FOSS WATERFALL
Distance: 16 miles · 25–30 min drive
Postcode: YO22 5JE (May Beck Car Park) / YO22 5JD (Falling Foss Car Park)
Length: 2-mile circular · Easy
A truly magical woodland walk through Sneaton Forest to the spectacular Falling Foss waterfall — a stunning 30-foot cascade hidden deep in the trees. The path follows May Beck almost the entire way — constant shallow water access for paddling and cooling off. Shady, cool, beautifully scented woodland — perfect on hot days. Passes the curious Hermit's Stone carved by a Victorian stonemason.
⚠️ Dog notes: Short lead mandatory near the waterfall — steep, unfenced drops close to the path. Good off-lead potential along the woodland beck sections away from the falls.

The Fox and Rabbit, Great Dalby
